Myths and Truths about Natural Healing

Created on: 2023-10-21

When natural healing - healing with diet, herbs, etc. - comes up in conversation, I frequently hear the same questions or objections. Here are some common objections and my answers to them.

Belief

If you're healing someone who's suffering from a disease caused by a pathogen, you need to know exactly which pathogen you're dealing with.

Reality

This belief comes from orthodox medicine, where pharmaceuticals generally have one active ingredient. But even certain orthodox medicines can have a broad effect on many kinds of pathogens.

But with plant medicines, it's much broader, as a single plant oil might contain over a hundred compounds. Just one plant medicine I use is attested, in the scientific literature, to be anti-parasitic, anti-fungal, anti-osteoclast, deworming, effective against many pathogenic bacteria, even MRSA, and more. With substances like these, there is less need for specificity in natural healing.

Belief

Any apparent cure from a herbal medicine is just due to the placebo effect.

Reality

I hear this often. The placebo effect is very real, well documented, and quite fascinating. It plays a role in orthodox medicine too. However, the effects of both orthodox and herbal medicines are proven beyond the placebo effect.

A person might take a sham medicine and feel better. But just as often, and you may have experienced this yourself, you can take a genuine medication, expecting great things, and then nothing happens. So the placebo effect is real, but it's also limited, and the effects are also often short-term.

However, if you take certain herbal blends, you may feel the effects on your body in wholly unexpected, and very profound ways, and at the stronger end of treatments, you'll know, without any doubt at all, that you experienced a physical effect, not a placebo.

Belief

Orthodox medicine outperforms natural healing, every time.
