Doctor's "Relief" over AstraZeneca Vaccine's Withdrawal

Created on: 2025-01-26

One of the first doctors to raise the alarm about the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine was previously an enthusiastic supporter of the same, as recently reported by the Telegraph.

During the covid lockdowns, Dr Sue Pavord, a consultant haematologist, was so hopeful that AZ would be a huge success that she enrolled herself in the trial, and successfully encouraged her daughter to do likewise.

But just nine weeks after the rollout, she saw the first serious side effect. On March 15th 2021, a young man went to see her with a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) - a blood clot - and low platelets, about a week after receiving the AZ vaccine.

Neither condition is especially rare, but the combination is highly unusual, leading the doctor to consider the vaccine as a possible cause.

Two days later, she attended a meeting with the MHRA where three other consultants had seen the same combination.

Pavord contacted colleagues, and soon the connection between this condition and covid jabs became clear. The combination gained a new name - vaccine-induced thrombocytopenia and thrombosis - VITT.

The death rate from this condition was initially a staggering 75%, though with later treatment plans was reduced to "only" 22% - still a shockingly high death rate.
